Weather at Home – Be a Weather Maker!

Bored of calm and dry season well there are number of activities related to weather that could be done at home or school. PWP will tell you about three weather related phenomenons that you can make at home. Following are the easiest weather related things you can try at home;

1. Tornado
2. Fog
3. Rainbow

At home: Tornado in a bottle!

Things required

Bottle, Dishwashing soap, glue and obviously water.

• Step 1: Take a transparent bottle, made of plastic.
• Step 2: Fill about 2/3 of the bottle with water.
• Step 3: Add one to two drops of glue in the bottle. (Glitter of any colour could also be used)
• Step 4: Add small quantity of liquid soap in the bottle.
• Step 5: Close the bottle with a cap tightly and Spin the bottle!

You have now successfully created a tornado in a bottle. Watch out for its winds!

At home: Fog in a bottle!

Things required

Bottle, match and water

• Step 1: Take a transparent bottle, made of plastic.
• Step 2: Rinse the inner side of the bottle with water.
• Step 3: Add boiling hot water inside the bottle and close the bottle with the cap and shake it.
• Step 4: Pour all the water outside the bottle in a sink.
• Step 5: Carefully light a match and drop it into the bottle. Shake it up so the match burns out.
• Step 6: Immediately replace the cap and shake it back and forth 2-3 times.
• Step 7: Using both hands, squeeze the center of your cloud bottle as hard as you can. Then, release both hands evenly and very quickly.

Congratulations! you now have a “foggy day” in your bottle.

At home: Rainbow

Things required

White paper, flashlight, glass of water

There are many methods for making a rainbow at home but Flashlight method is the most famous one;

• Step 1: Find a piece of white paper. Fold it in half, and cut a little triangle with a pair of scissors.
• Step 2: Fill a glass with water. A fishbowl, or other clear container will also work well.
• Step 3: Tape a flashlight on the hole in the piece of paper.
• Step 4: Hold the paper up with the flashlight bar.
• Step 5: Turn on the flashlight directly at the glass of water.
