Life changed for ever in Japan
Japan witnessed its worst earthquake in 140 years ago on March 11 last year. The magnitude 9.0 earthquake triggered a deadly nuclear chaos at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, the quake almost shifted the axis of Earth as it hit the north-eastern coast. On March 11, 20,000 people were dead. Today the country marks the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake and tsunami as the country slowly tries to recover.

Japanese gathered today amid tears, prayers and a moment of silence to mark one year since an earthquake and tsunami killed thousands, and triggered the world’s worst nuclear crisis in a quarter century.
The nation observed a moment of silence at 2:46 pm, the exact time the earthquake battered the coast of Japan while people bowed their head to grief the dead.
